Job Description

Unleash Your Paws is looking for a reliable, responsible, kind and compassionate individual to be part of our dog walking team. The ideal candidate should describe themselves as a dependable, hard-working dog lover, who works well independently and as part of a team.

Pay: Commissioned rate per dog walked. Average pay is between $20,000-$60,000/annually.

*This is an independent contractor position; you will be paid a flat rate per dog walked.

Dog walkers will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing dogs, and supporting their needs;
  • Providing safe transportation to and from designated off leash park;
  • Offering both private dog walks, and pack walks- leashed and off-leashed;
  • Communicating and delivering progress reports with clients via text, email, and/or phone when necessary;
  • Enthusiastically greet dogs and reinforce positive training practices; and
  • Capturing photos and videos of pack members, and uploading them to social media. 

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess valid G class license;
  • Open availability Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm;
  • Have access to a vehicle;
  • Own device(s) to capture photos and videos, and upload to social media;
  • Knowledge of LIMA practices; and
  • Experience with dogs.
  • Dog first aid is considered an asset.

Things you need to know before applying:

  • Dog walkers work in all kinds of weather- rain, shine, snow, extreme cold, freezing rain… always best to be prepared for all kinds of weather.
  • You will use your own vehicle. Be prepared to welcome dog hair, mud, and dirt in your vehicle.  
  • You will walk dogs of all sizes.
  • You will be hired as an independent contractor. This means you will not be paid EI, CPP, or vacation pay.
  • The more dogs you walk, the more money you make.
  • You will be trained to understand canine body language, and how to use positive reinforcement training methods.
  • Training methods that may cause pain, fear, or force of the dogs will not be tolerated.
  • You will require an HST number and will be required to keep track of your own expenses for tax purposes.
  • We are looking for a commitment of one year or more from the ideal candidate.
  • Opportunities to become a dog trainer or a trainer's assistant are available.
